(More...)You Will Need: - sock puppets
- long socks
- toe socks
- markers (teacher use)
Create a silly show using sock puppets.
- Bring out any sock puppets you have. You could also draw simple faces on long socks or toe socks with markers to make your own sock puppets.
- Place a sock puppet on each of your hands. Have the puppets talk using silly voices, tell a story, sing a silly song, play peekaboo, or do something else funny. If there are multiple educators/caregivers, you could work together to put on a funny puppet show.
- After the children have had a chance to watch you, invite them to use a sock puppet and join the fun.
- Puppet play can have numerous benefits for toddlers' development. It can nurture listening skills, language development, social-emotional development, and creativity.
Older Toddlers: Encourage children to notice the different emotions and feelings of the sock puppets.
Observe: Do the children enjoy hearing silly stories, songs, or actions from the puppets? How can you tell? Encourage older children to think of a silly story or joke to try with the sock puppets.
Note: Place the sock puppets in the books and pretend play exploration stations (see Related Activities).
