You Will Need:
  • assorted soft toys
  • beach toy set
  • large molded wading pool

Create a new, exciting place for children to play.

  • Fill a large molded wading pool with a variety of soft toys and the beach toy set.
  • The children can climb in and out to play with the toys. Describe their actions. This will help them notice each other's activities and may inspire new ways to play. They may decide to pull out all of the toys and then return them to their places. They may prefer to be in the pool and play with the toys there.
  • As you see children play together, comment on positive social interactions, such as sharing, helping another child, or the gentle ways they play together.

Observe: Do the children engage with each other in meaningful ways? Encourage them to share how they feel during this group activity. What other emotions do they see in the children and adults around them? Does a child become upset if another child is playing with a toy she wants? Do two children playing together express and understand happiness while playing?
