You Will Need:
  • hula hoop

Play a classic childhood game.

  • One of the earliest group games that toddlers enjoy is Ring Around the Rosie.
  • Sometimes it is a little easier for them to play the game if two or three children hold on to a hula hoop. As they hold the hoop, they can move together in a circle while they help you chant the rhyme. At the end, everyone can quickly sit down.
  • Here are the lyrics for "Ring Around the Rosie."
Ring Around the Rosie
Traditional

Ring around the rosie,
Pocket full of posies,
Ashes, ashes,
We all fall down!

Older Toddlers: Older children can omit the hoop and just hold hands and move together in a circle.

Observe: What emotions do children express throughout the activity? Encourage them to talk about other games they feel comfortable playing together. How does playing with each other make them feel?
