Family Participation: Consider asking families to donate sets of small plastic dinosaurs to use for various activities during this theme.
Things to Talk About: Bring out the Dinosaurs Topic/Spanish Card (see Resources) and show it to the children. Dinosaurs were reptiles that lived on Earth millions of years ago. Introduce the Spanish word for dinosaurs, dinosaurios (dee-noh-SAH-ree-ohs). Ask children to share what they know about dinosaurs. What did they look like? How big were they? What did they eat? As the theme progresses, the children will learn facts about dinosaurs such as how big they were, what they ate, and how they cared for their young.
Things to Do: Show children pictures of some familiar dinosaurs such as the T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Apatosaurus, and Pterodactyl. Introduce the sign language symbol for dinosaur (see Resources).
