(More...)Resources: Stick Puppet: Penguin and KoalaYou Will Need: - Penguin Stick Puppet (see Resources)
- Peekaboo! In the Snow or other board book
Use the Penguin Stick Puppet and Peekaboo! In the Snow or another board book to introduce the theme Polar Pals.
- Have Penelope Penguin greet the children (see Resources). She can tell them that she lives in a place that is cold and snowy.
- You can also have the puppet tell the children that many other creatures live in snowy places. Some live near her and others live in different snowy places.
- Hold up Peekaboo! In the Snow or another board book with animals in cold places. Explain that all the animals in the book live in cold snowy places. Some live near Penelope, but others live far from her. But all of them have cold, snowy homes.
- Read the book, using lots of expression. The children can take turns opening and closing the flaps.
- Notice which animals seem most interesting to the children. Think about ways you can build on that interest.
Tip: If there is an aquarium or zoo nearby with polar animals, you may want to plan a visit!
