Stick Puppet: Macaw 2018You Will Need: - Little Drops of Water Nursery Rhyme Story Prop (see Resources)
- Macaw Stick Puppet (see Resources)
- pipette
- containers of sand and water
Use the nursery rhyme "Little Drops of Water" (see Resources) to introduce the theme Sand and Sea.
- Hold up the Macaw Stick Puppet (see Resources) and have Madison tell the children that his home is in a tree near the ocean. He can talk about how he loves to watch the children play on the beach and see the beautiful ocean water.
- Show the Story Prop as you read the rhyme "Little Drops of Water." Repeat a few times.
- Draw attention to the sandy beach in the picture. Provide sand and invite the children to touch it. Sprinkle some and point out that the sand is made of tiny bits called grains. The grains of sand are very small. The beach is made of many, many grains of sand.
- Fill a pipette with water. Invite children to hold out their hands if they would like you to drip water on them. Talk about how the drops of water look and feel. Explain that the ocean is made of many, many drops of water.
