Greeting: Sing a favorite children's song. Introduce the new month. Place the July Calendar Heading on the Calendar Grid. Practice saying the Spanish word for July, julio (HOO-leeoh). Place the Calendar Pieces for yesterday and today on the grid, and say today's date. Does anyone have a birthday this month? You can download birthday calendar pieces at funshineexpress.com in the Resources section. Discuss today's weather. Move the arrow to the appropriate spot on the Weather Display, and place the corresponding Weather Card on the correct day of the week.
Number, Color, or Shape: Review the number nine. Show children the Number 9 Counting Card. Say the Spanish word for nine, nueve (NWEH-veh). Offer small manipulatives (buttons, beads, poms, etc.), and invite children to place one manipulative on each crayon to reinforce the number nine.
Alphabet Fun: Review the letter I. Show the Letter I Card to the children. Practice making the short and long /i/ sounds. Point to the upper and lowercase letters. Introduce the sign language symbol. Ask children, "What letter I items are pictured on the front and back of the card?"
