You Will Need:
  • vehicle peg puzzle
  • toy vehicles with and without wheels

Sort vehicles by whether they have wheels or no wheels.

  • Bring out your vehicles peg puzzle. Help children decide whether each piece has wheels or no wheels.
  • Bring out toy vehicles. Include some that do not have wheels such as toy helicopters and boats. As you look at the toys, help the children decide which vehicles have wheels and which ones do not.
  • Combine the puzzle pieces with the toy vehicles. Encourage the children to sort them by whether they have wheels or not.
  • When finished, the children can assemble the puzzle again.

Older Toddlers: Count the vehicles in each pile. Encourage the children to count with you in English or their home language as they show readiness.

Observe: Do the children participate and engage with interest in the activity? Challenge children to come up with other ways to play with the puzzle and toy vehicles.
