Identify and match shapes.
- Sit with a child and bring out the Hot Air Balloon Shapes Early Learning Materials (see Resources).
- Look at the hot air balloons with the child and help the child notice and name each of the shapes. Help the child notice that the shape on the balloon and basket are the same.
- Offer the child the shape pieces. Ask the child to match the pieces to each hot air balloon. For young toddlers, offer one shape piece at a time.
- Repeat with each child.
Observe: Do the children recognize and match the shapes? Offer shape toys, such as shape sorters or puzzles, to help with shape recognition.
